For You, Honda Fit 2017

2023

This installation commented on and explored the amount of religious faith that I have put into my car, the pictured 2017 Honda Fit, to keep me safe while driving her. Represented by the abundance of hand-built ceramic crosses and gravel spilling out of her trunk, I imagined my car throwing all of this religion up and out. A machine built by humans and controlled by humans, I don’t believe, would be able to assimilate and absorb such metaphysical faith, yet I still continue to put it on her.
This faith that I possess is translated through the crocheted nylon net encasing my car. The altar that my car is facing symbolizes God herself, a faceless entity with open arms. The ceramic cross above the trunk of the car acts as ornamentation.
